Beginner Sewing Workshop: Custom Kerchiefs

Description

In this hands-on workshop, learn how to operate the Library’s sewing machines (Brother PC-420) and leave with a personalized kerchief (or bandana/napkin/sampler).

All skill levels welcome, even if you’ve never used a sewing machine before!

Registration required. Space is limited to 4 participants. Please join the waitlist as additional sessions may be added if there is enough interest.

Skills taught in this workshop will include:

  • Basic sewing machine anatomy and terminology
  • Threading the sewing machine and winding the bobbin
  • Sewing with the basic straight stitch
  • Sewing straight lines and turning corners
  • Hemming/finishing techniques such as: scalloped edge, double-fold hem, overlocked edge
  • Decorative stitches, monogramming, and contrast stitching
