"In Closing Time, William Lindeke and Andy Sturdevant dive into tales from famous and infamous drinking establishments from throughout Twin Cities history. Readers are led on a multigenerational pub crawl through speakeasies, tied houses, rathskellers, cocktail lounges, gin mills, fern bars, social clubs, singles bars, gastropubs, and dives. Featuring beloved bars like Matt's, Palmer's, the Payne Reliever, and Moby Dick's, the book also resurrects memories of long-forgotten establishments cherished in their day. Lindeke and Sturdevant highlight neighborhood dives, downtown nightspots, and out-of-the-way hideaways, many of which continue to thrive today. Closing Time brings together stories of these spaces and the people who frequented them"--Provided by publisher.

Lindeke and Sturdevant deliver a great portal into Twin Cities drinking history, back to territorial days. A wonderful overview of the places and people associated with pubs and saloons, back into the 1840s.

The stories of folks that time have forgotten are also shared, including bar-owning people of color, LGBTQIA folks and women. All of the important stories are featured in this engrossing history.

Did you know that a bar that was near where Murray's Steakhouse is today catered to women and offered day care? Until the day care was shut down by the Humane Society (which used to have protecting animals and children in its mission).
